hey, honey

Honey - the very closest I prefer to get to bees. Once Tyler and I were on a bus and there was a bee flying around. I got so spooked that I made him get off and we walked all the way back to Queen Anne from the top of Denny way, I swear they smell fear...

Besides the insect situation - I love everything about it. Honey nut cheerios, honeycomb, Honey I Shrunk the Kids(I,II, III), etc. I started to wonder when I posted this if honey was vegan...and then I wikipedia-ed it which turned out to be a terrible idea because it involved some really terrifying diagrams of honey bees which I did not enjoy looking at. Then I found some seemingly amusing information that labeled bees as being 'enslaved.' What? Bee slaves? (Useless, right?) But yes, bees as slaves. Or it's dominionism, exploitation of nature, human superiority, whatever you like to call it. It's the whole idea that humans are justified in using all other life forms instrumentally, for our own benefit. The earth: the birds, the sun, the plants. were not made for humans. Why do we feel entitled to take it for our toast?

Either way, honey is bee vomit, and it tastes really good. The way I see it, you can't go through life feeling guilty every time you step on green grass or get in a car, it would just be too damn sad. The difference is intent.

Honestly, even the 5d Mark II doesn't do it justice.

The sky was doing nice things that morning. Spending 2 weeks in Brown's Point was the best thing I could have done to start this year off well. It gave me time to rest, think, and indulge my senses in the habitat of my upbringing that I took for granted for so long.

The first two weeks of the quarter have gone very well.

Friday marked the (almost) end of the quarter for everyone on the fifth floor. So until January 4th, life stops a little bit. Now, onto cooking for anne, tyler, and my peace of mind, reading more, catching up, slowing down, wearing warm scarves and long johns, walking charlie and staying out of seattle as much as possible. I've already picked up working on my abstractions again. Good job to my new media group, we made the top 5 out of 30 presentations friday.

I love the amount of control you have, even with such a simple object you can bring out the intense details only a 4x5 camera can capture. This was the fourth lighting setup I used, I was lucky every negative came out without bracketing.

Photo Essay - New Media

This is my second new media project. Our concept was to photograph local

business owners on Capitol Hill to capture the essence of our neighborhood through the hard working people who bring us all of

the localized services we need. I don't have the official intro but I will try to post it later. We ended up only exploring the businesses on East Pine Street, which was fine because there is a really diverse community on that one street alone. I hope you enjoy these.

FRIENDS

Sorry I haven't posted for a long while, I developed a nasty case of mononucleosis just a week before school began and have been religiously sleeping/studying since. Now that I'm all healed I'll be back at Starbucks this Saturday and will definitely have something more interesting to say. I thought it might be difficult to keep this blog all film because my classes are primarily digital, but we are doing some work on 4x5 cameras that I really enjoy. I should have some of those photos up soon. I would tell you

all the nerdy details of the photography program I'm in and totally geek out, but I value your time much more than that. Until next time, christina.
